Pick a card, any card!

I wanted to make a book but couldn’t afford the to buy any fancy materials and didn’t really want to leave the house. Also, I had just begun thinking about different materials for book creation while cleaning out a junk drawer (you know if you go to look in YOUR junk drawer there’s at least one deck of cards).

The first attempt went very badly. I had thought that because it was a small, lightweight book, the spine would not need to be reinforced with the usual card stock. I also wanted the spine to have some give so it would fit back into the card deck case. It turns out that using just book cloth for a spine is a terrible idea, in both use and appearance. Also, I had failed to use the proper kettle stitch on the text block which made for rather shifty signatures.

But that’s what first tried are for, right? Trail and error and what not. So I began again, correcting all my previous mistake and was relieved to discover that there were no new mistakes to be found. And thus, behold! A deck of cards that is useful for writing down how much you owe your bookie!
